Shankar's Ice Cream Library is a well-known gelato ice-cream brand in the city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat state of India. Selling the ice-cream has been their business since 1960 established by Mr Gopilal Samnani & nurtured by the generations. The journey was started in an Indian way of selling the ice-cream on a traditional handcart with the name of "Shankar Ice Cream & Kulfi Center". Mr Gopilal did this for decades and flourished the brand with his great hard work and vision.

Ice Cream Library, the name is inspired from books library with immense scope of innovation and creation by the team’s knowledge and skills with new concepts time to time and running with a good variety for the city people. The brand was set up in year 2016 with the concept of making artisan ice-cream. The name became a brand with premium quality and great customer service to give every flavor a unique taste so people can experience the greatness of finest ‘Live ice-cream’ with craftsmanship where customers say that it’s taste last for days in memories.

Our specialization is in making only premium rich fat ice-creams with all fruit flavours but black jamun, mango and chocolate are the most favorite and famous flavours in the city. These all became possible when we bought “Carpigiani Maestro Batch Freezer” & “BG ITALY Machine” and manufactured the ice-creams as per our team’s imagination and customers demand. The brand has one retail store in the city and serves through bulk orders as well for get-togethers, parties and weddings. Ice Cream Library has bagged a prestigious Times Group’s TIMES FOOD AWARD 2017 for ‘Best Ice-Cream’.



- Why did you decide to produce and sell gelato? Was it a dream or you decided it all of a sudden?
This was started by my father in late 1960

- Where did you learn about Carpigiani Gelato University? Why did you decide to register for courses?
It is a great knowledge sharing university we decide to register for the course for the enrichment of our knowledge

- What is the mission of your gelato shop?
To develop and serve the new artisan ice cream and New concept


- What was the inspiration for the name of your shop?
like wise library has some innovative books we icecream library has new innovative icecreams

- Tell me about a typical day in the shop.
Heavy rush during weekends and festival time

- What part of your work do you like the most?
Production part of ice cream

- What is your favorite flavor?
All fruits flavours and specialy Indian flavor kaju drakash (cashew and rasins)


- What is your customers’ favorite flavor?
Fresh fruit flavors like (kala jamun and fresh mango) and All chocolate flavors

- In the country where you work, is artisanal gelato known? Or is it confused with industrial ice cream?
Gujarat (INDIA) , we make only premium rich fat icecream

- How do you communicate the craftsmanship of your product?
By continuous trials

- In your opinion, what is the key to success for a gelato shop?
Hardwork quality and service


- How do you communicate with customers and how do you make yourself known? Do you use social networks a lot?
Yes we use social networking we develop customer relations and also bulk catering orders

- How and how much has your life changed after the opening of your shop?
YES we found very fast change in our life,people are now recognize’s us and respecting us.. AND by the icecream parlour we can make new artisan flavors every month

- What are your plans for the future? Do you want to open more shops?
Yes we want to make new Artisan ice cream shops

- What is the message/advice that you would give CGU students or anyone who wants to start a career in the gelato business?
Our advice to the CGU students is to use best machine and best quality ingredients and make the best quality ice cream people will automatically appreciate your product
